TOPIC: Trace files are not being downloaded to the client

Trace files are not being downloaded to the client 3 years 3 months ago #225

I have just installed the trial version on MR TRACE - but somehow I do not seem to get it to work.

When I run the SQL as a script, I see that ScriptRunner task runs but I do not see the Method R Trace window being populated with the trace file entry.

The trace files are getting generated on the server, but they are not being downloaded to the client.

I would appreciate if someone can let me know how to debug this.

Thanks,
Rizwan

Debug output can be enabled with the following steps:
  1. Close SQL Developer
  2. Open the file '{sqldev_path}/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldeveloper.conf
  3. Add these 2 lines
    AddVMOption -Dcom.methodr.debug=true
    AddVMOption -Dcom.methodr.loglevel=all
  4. Save, and start SQL Developer from the command line by executing '{sqldev_path}/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper.sh' or the exe file if you're on Windows
You should see logging output to the terminal window.

A common reason files are not downloaded is that the 'METHODR_UDUMP_DEST' Directory Object could not be found.

Thanks Admin for the quick reply.

I am somehow not able to set up debugging. Here is my directory structure
for SQL Developer.

I have the following directories under E:\\sqldeveloper-3.0.04.34\\sqldeveloper:

bin
doc
extensions
lib
searchengines

There are no standalone files in that directory.

My sqldeveloper.conf exists in E:\\sqldeveloper-3.0.04.34\\sqldeveloper\\bin

After modification it looks like this:

IncludeConfFile ../../ide/bin/ide.conf

SetJavaHome ../../jdk

AddVMOption -Doracle.ide.util.AddinPolicyUtils.OVERRIDE_FLAG=true

AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=false

AddVMOption -Dwindows.shell.font.languages=

AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M

AddVMOption -Doracle.jdbc.mapDateToTimestamp=false
IncludeConfFile sqldeveloper-nondebug.conf

AddVMOption -Dcom.methodr.debug=true

AddVMOption -Dcom.methodr.loglevel=all

Lastly, I start SQL Developer from the command prompt from my windows machine as follows:
E:\\sqldeveloper-3.0.04.34\\sqldeveloper\\bin\\sqldeveloper.exe

But I do not see any debug output in my console window.

Thanks again for your time!

I managed to get the debug for SQL Developer working...but nothing in the output when I run the trace and the trace file is not downloaded on my machine.

Re:Trace files are not being downloaded to the client 3 years 3 months ago #229

Just for the sake of completeness the following code demonstrates that I am able to access the file through PL/SQL.

But no luck still from accessing it through the MR Trace tool.

db_user@DB_DEV>
db_user@DB_DEV> DECLARE
2 l_fexists BOOLEAN;
3 l_file_length PLS_INTEGER;
4 l_block_size PLS_INTEGER;
5 BEGIN
6 UTL_FILE.fgetattr (location => 'METHODR_UDUMP_DEST'
7 , filename => 'lcd1_dev_ora_6585_METHODR_20110407141304.trc'
8 , fexists => l_fexists
9 , file_length => l_file_length
10 , block_size => l_block_size
11 );
12 DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line ('l_file_length :' || l_file_length);
13 DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line ('l_block_size :' || l_block_size);
14 END;
15 /

l_file_length :122882
l_block_size :4096

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

You only show initialization output. Can you run your script and then post your log output? Make sure that MR Trace is enabled and that you press the "Run Script" button. (see attached)
